Mount Caburn

£35.00

Sussex is full of ancient barrows, and full of stories of hidden treasure. Mount Caburn, looming over Lewes and Glynde, is no different - people have lived here since the Bronze Age, and according to legend, a golden suit of armour is burried on the hilltop.

The margins of this work were inspired by wildflowers you might find on the South downs: houndstongue, bird's foot trefoil, yellow cowslip, and the spectacular round-headed rampion.
St Andrew's Church at Beddingham can be seen at the foot of the Mount.

For the human figures I researched bronze age armour and clothing, to speculate on what the people who lived on the hill-fort may have looked like.
Excavations on the Caburn have uncovered many fascinating finds, but the golden armour lies waiting still...

A4 sized mounted print, suitable for an 11” by 14” frame.
This illuminated print is gold-foiled to look and feel like the gold-leafed original.

Limited run of 25, hand-numbered and signed.
