Aper Dei

Long before the Cross of St George became the flag of England, it was used in Mediaeval images of the Angus Dei, the Lamb of God. These depictions of a lamb holding a flag symbolise the Resurrection of Christ, and his victory over death.

I have drawn on this motif to show the wild boar re-conquering England - a resurrection of sorts after they were hunted to extinction in the Middle Ages. They continue to be vulnerable to over-hunting, but are quietly establishing strongholds all over the country.

A5 size print, mounted to fit a 10” by 8” frame.
This illuminated print is gold-foiled to look and feel like the gold-leafed original.

Limited run of 25, hand-numbered and signed.
