Strange News from Sussex

original calligraphy, painting, and gilding in the mediaeval style.

Working in mediaeval styles and methods, I illuminate local folklore and legends, to bring the landscape around us alive through story and art. I draw on a mixture of well-known stories, and histories at risk of being forgotten. Adding these tales back into the landscape, I want to keep the tradition of storytelling alive, and fill the world with a bit more enchantment.

Bestiarium Beatum

Using the visual language of sacred art, I aim to bring a sense of awe, wonder, and devotion to the lives and struggles of animals in our landscape.

By highlighting species that are in decline or facing extinction, I want to bring attention to our relationships with the animals around us.

Sanctuary

For this collection, I was inspired by the fading light of autumn and winter. Working in ink on darkened papers creates emphatically dark landscapes, that are broken up by points of light.

The finished works are an invitation to find sanctuary behind well-lit windows, from the cold and dark.

Gloria Mundi

GLORIA MUNDI is an ongoing collection started in 2020. By re-imagining wildlife on a larger scale, the regularly ignored or side-lined becomes inescapable. Enlarged, unassailable, and maybe threatening, the animals central in these works invite the viewer to re-evaluate our relation with our environment.
